Recent Shows Prt 2: John Carpenter…
John Carpenter is a recent transplant to LA from NYC. He has a great voice, he plays the hell out of the guitar, he writes great songs, his band kills, and to top it all off, He is one of the most sincere people I have ever met. (Which, needless to say, is a rarity in this business.) My friend Holly had been telling me about him for a long time and I finally got a chance to see him and his band (He also does solo shows) at The Whiskey in Hollywood. They were incredible. They played the perfect mix of slightly out, interesting, dark music (“Bones“) and easily accessible, but still really interesting, rock tunes. (“Rollaway“, which was one of my favorites live.) And they did it with style and grace. I highly recommend that you see him / support him however you can. Then you’ll be able to brag to people that you saw him “… in a tiny club, man, with… like… 20 people… Man, those were the days bro…”
